Environmental action plan

CONTAINERSHIPS Environmental Action Plan shows the overall environmental goals of the integrated Container Movement Process management system. The Group wide controlled environmental issues set for period 2006-2012 are emissions to the air and overall waste production.

The main goals for improving envronmental performance:

» Sea transport

• Control and reduce emissions using Heavy Fuel with max 1 % Sulphur- content in Sulphur- Emission Controlled Areas (SECA)
• Control and reduce emissions using Gas Oil with max 0,1 % Sulphur-content for the auxiliary engines in European ports
• Control emissions by increasing load factors of the ships in each route

» Road transport

• Control and reduce CO2 emissions from road transport.
• Control road transport emissions per moved container by reducing amount of kilometers driven empty.

» Other

• Environmentally efficient purchasing.
• Modern EURO fleet requirements for suppliers
• Office paper recycling
• Integrated Ship waste recycling

» Awareness policy

• Maintain high environmental awareness of all personnel.
